Understanding subluxations and how they affect your health.

When the flow of nerve impulses through the nervous system is obstructed, the spinal column ceases to work and move correctly which interferes with the proper function and healing process of vital parts of the body.

The spine consists of 24 moveable bones , called vertebrae, which form the center of the back from the base of the skull to the pelvis. Stacked like building blocks, these vertebrae are each separated by a thick elastic pad known as a disc. Discs act as spacers that help absorb shock, reduce friction, and allow mobility. This structure of fat, muscles, and bones also houses and protects the cord through which all nerve impulses flow. Every vital organ and tissue in the body is connected to and controlled by nerves which travel back and forth through the spinal cord to the brain. These nerves exit through small openings in between the vertebrae. Any interference's to the flow of nerve impulses may cause a disturbance in body functions, possibly causing symptoms in the area that nerve supplies.

The most common obstruction to the flow of nerve impulses through the nervous system is a misalignment or subluxation of the spine. It is a condition in which one or more vertebrae of the spine are out of alignment. The spinal column ceases to work and move correctly. A nerve is impinged and normal transmission of nerve impulses are obstructed which interferes with the proper function and healing process of other vital parts of the body.

An untreated subluxation can produce long term effects which may result in permanent damage to organs or to the spine itself. In the early stages, a subluxation only affects muscles, ligaments, and nerves. Although extreme pain has been observed in some cases, it is more often noticed as a discomfort, or not at all. If detected early, a subluxation will respond well to chiropractic care with an excellent chance for a complete and painless recovery.

If the condition is allowed to go untreated, the body will attempt to help support the subluxated vertebrae, but may actually deform instead. As the muscles become more rigid, the disc starts to degenerate. Over a period of time the area becomes calcified and the vertebrae will actually begin to change shape. The longer the condition is allowed to go uncorrected, the less chance there is for recovery. What began as a minor problem may lead to total destruction of the joint and irreversible damage to the nerves.

Why let this happen to you? At Schulz Chiropractic our objective is to properly diagnose and treat any subluxation you may experience. Dr. Schulz is trained to help relieve discomfort, restore mobility, and allow the proper flow of nerve impulses, enabling the body to function properly once again.
